Having been assembled on October 3, 1950, this arresting BMW R51/2 is one of approximately 5k units built during the model's short production run, which lasted for a mere two years. The R51/2.

BMW started by basically cloning its 250cc pre-war efforts, but once it was allowed to create bigger engines, the 494cc R51/2 was introduced - only for one year of production! Approximately 5,000 units were produced between '50 and '51, period reviews considered it a "Jekyll and Hyde" type bike, as Cycle magazine stated in 1950:

BMW R51/2 1951 Restoration

The BMW R51/3 was BMW 's second post- World War II 500 cc motorcycle, following the briefly produced R51/2. It featured a flat-twin engine and exposed drive shaft. [1] In 1951, the R51/3 succeeded and modernized the 1950 R51/2, which was essentially a pre-war design that was produced after the war.

Posts: 24 Joined: Tue May 23, 2023 8:35 am R51/2 - replacing dinamo by Goro F » Thu Jul 20, 2023 6:34 am hello i needed to replace the dinamo on my BMW. I noticed that the gasket and and the bracket (see picture) were not present and i bought newones. In fact there was applied a sort of putty as seailing between dinamo and housing of the engine.

Great basic model for a technical overview and to take for a ride, or to restore to its original condition without having to spend forever looking for genuine parts.
